Our History

Our journey in karate began in 2007 when our family was displaced from New Orleans, Louisiana, by Hurricane Katrina. We found a new home in San Antonio, Texas, where we met our instructor, Hanshi Balfour Wright, who introduced us to the art and philosophy of traditional karate. Training together as a family — with our five children, then aged two to twelve — laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Blazing Dragon Dojo.
When we later moved to Wylie,Tx. We searched for a karate school that embodied the same commitment to traditional martial arts that had shaped our journey. When we couldn’t find one, we decided to create our own. From those humble beginnings in our garage, we began sharing the knowledge and values passed down to us, bringing traditional karate to our local community in Wylie.
Today, the Blazing Dragon Dojo proudly offers classes Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with introductory trial classes starting at 4:30 PM for newcomers who want to experience our training firsthand. We are also introducing open mat days and midday fitness classes, giving our students and community even more opportunities to train, grow, and connect.
The Blazing Dragon Dojo is more than a martial arts school — it’s a place where families grow stronger together, where tradition meets passion, and where every student becomes part of our extended dojo family.
